Agreement for lower roaming prices between countries in the region
Agreement to reduce the prices of roaming services in public mobile communications networks is due to be signed by Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina in Budva.

Minister of Information Society and Administration Marta Arsovska Tomovska will sign the agreement on behalf of the Government of Republic of Macedonia.

According to announcements, the agreement should provide multiple price reductions for talks, SMS, and internet services through mobile phones. It is also the first step for the complete abolition of roaming calls between the five countries of the region.

For the application of the agreement whose content is agreed upon at the meeting of the regulatory bodies month ago, legislative changes are necessary. The competent departments of the signatory of the contract within 30 days should start procedure for amending the Law on Electronic Communications and the prices for the service will be regulated on reciprocal basis.

VMRO-DPMNE: Legal Changes for Lower Prices of Roaming Services

December 11, 2014, Thursday @ 19:30 in Business | Views: 29

The MPs group of VMRO-DPMNE announced today its support for the proposed changes to the Law on Electronic Communications which entail lower prices for the roaming services of the public mobile communication networks.

The changes come after the signing of the agreement on lowering the roaming prices in the public communication networks between Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Serbia. Under the agreement, the countries vow to make appropriate changes in their laws on electronic communications on that way that the roaming prices in the aforementioned countries will be regulated based on reciprocal grounds in accordance with the Agreement of Roaming inside the EU.

According to Dragan Danev, MP from the lines of VMRO-DPMNE, a new article is to be added in the law which would authorize the Agency for Electronic Communications to set the maximum prices for the services the mobile communication networks offer to users for roaming services in the countries with which Macedonia has signed the agreement.

"As MPs of VMRO-DPMNE's parliamentary group we will support these changes because we feel that on this way the Macedonian citizens will be able to use the roaming services offered by mobile communication networks easier and cheaper, in the countries with which Macedonia has signed the agreement," Danev said.

He pointed that the biggest benefit will be felt by Macedonian citizens who travel or communicate every day with Bosnia, Montenegro and Serbia. The lowering of the prices of the roaming services will bring a major benefit to Macedonian companies from the private sector, which conduct everyday communication and cooperation with a large number of companies in the countries that have signed the agreement.

Current roaming prices are between 80 and 150 denars per minute. The agreement will reduce charges for a minute of outgoing calls to 17,9 denars, and to 5 denars for a minute in incoming calls. A megabyte of data will be charged 43 denars. All prices are without the national value added tax.

These prices will be further reduced beginning next year, to 14,76 denars for outgoing calls, 4,92 denars for incoming calls and 27,6 denars for a megabyte. A further round of price reductions will follow in mid 2017.

Telecom regulators in Montenegro also joined in the program, but their decision was temporarily delayed by the Administrative Court. The Macedonian Agency for Electronic Communications informs that Montenegro has now prepared a new decision, in line with the objections from the Administrative Court, and has joined the other three countries in the round of roaming price reductions
