Gates offers the “usual deal” for Albania also
Tirana, Feb. 7 (AENews) - The world software tycoon, Bill Gates, offered recently to the Albanian Ministry of Education a cooperation agreement under which the public administration and schools will be able to receive their software free of charge in exchange for an effective war against piracy.
The Ministry of Education and Science declared that Minister Genc Pollo had been in a meeting with Mr. Gates in Lisbon, Spanje, to start talks about this agreement.
Gates has implemented a similar agreement with neighboring Macedonia.
According to some estimates there are about 40,000 computers in Albania, however it is very difficult to find even one case of software bought legally at full price, for in most cases it is copied and used freely.
The Albanian government last year ratified a new law to protect Industrial Ownership, under which protection of computer software was sanctioned for protection against piracy.
