Jovanovic: If Kosovo can be divided, why can't Serbia - Topix
"President of the Liberal Democratic Party in Serbia, Cedomir Jovanovic, stated yesterday that the division of Kosovo is not in the spirit of European politics, which should lead Serbia.
He wondered “if Kosovo can be divided, why can't Serbia,” with which he was seemingly alluding to the northern Vojvodina autonomous region with a sizeable Hungarian minority.
Jovanovic thinks the overstressing of Kosovo issue by the political elite in Belgrade "puts in the background the reality that Kosovo's problems are a result of the dysfunctional Serbian state, because Serbia has destroyed Kosovo and not the other way around."
Jovanovic said nobody is accusing Tadic for being responsible for the independence of Kosovo, but he as President is obliged to offer to the society a modern European vision of Serbia, which with its values would captivate everyone, and not unload its problems on others.
"The issue of division of Kosovo is a return to the political life of those topics which were present in Milosevic's and Kostunica's Serbia, which concluded with the debacle of Serbian state," said Jovanovic.
He also said that his party does not like the threats expressed in the Serb foreign policy, which are directed towards Macedonia and Montenegro not to formally recognize Kosovo independence
