Rhodopi mountains

The mountain has given to the Bulgarian folklore some of the mightiest and most unforgetable songs. During the Osman Empire's domination it was a scene of the greatest spiritual battle between the Mohammedanism and the Christianity - the place of the best yoghurt and the clearest crystal water...
In 1396 Bulgaria is parcelled out by internecine wars and completely falls under Osman domination. In 17th century the Turk Empire decides to send to Rhodopi Mountains regular and janissary army with an especially cruel mission - to convert the native Christian population to the Mohammedanism. The Rhodopi Mountains become a scene for an unequal battle and many Christians - scared about there lives and about the lives of their children - forcibly receive the Mus- lim religion. However, some of them withstand to the very end...
Macedonia
http://www.bulgare.net/show.php?lang=en&scene=2
When the white firs of Pirin Mountains start to murmur and the wind starts singing the songs of Jane and Gotze, the prays of mothers, the sobbs of the widows and the vows of the rebels could be heard. Vows, sealed by blood... Vows in the na- me of an innermost dream - dream more precious than life - United Bulgaria.
After the Liberation in 1878, Bulgaria is separated in two parts - The Principality of Bulgaria and The Eastern of Roumelia. Many of the Bulgarian Lands remain in the Turkish territory. Thousands of Bulgarians choose the armed struggle for liberation of their brothers. Dozens of bands traverse Macedonia, waving their battle flags and taken the oath that they would fight to the very last drop of their blood for their children and grandchildren could live one day in United Bulgaria.
Shopsko area

“Why to be troubled about it if it would be over?” - laughs over the wear and tear of life the clever shopp-man. And the dances of this area (the Sofia district) are proverbial with their swiftness and joggles. The best characteristic of the shopp- peasants is given by the Bulgarian writer Ellin Pellin - the master of the short stories.
” ... And after she looked at the eyes of Dabbakkah, who kept peering at her, she said firmly: “If you beat me in dancing, I will elope with you.“ - The eyes of Dabbakkah enflamed against her ones. “OK“ - said he smiling - “Will you keep on your word?“ “Kill me if I lie“ - answered Hristina. Dabbakkah began stepping to her fleetly. She rushed to him tiptoe slightly and passed him by. They surveyed each other from top to toe as every one of them wanted to demonstrate his superiority over the other and they began dancing face to face...”
North Bulgaria
http://www.bulgare.net/show.php?lang=en&scene=4
North Bulgaria - our luxuriant land between the Danube and the Balkan Mountains - lively, fiery dances, often wrapped with mysticism and enigmatics. The sick people are healed by the “kallusha“ - people; The healthy ones jump over the fires for to be mighty, young and protected from diseases; they swing torches to chase away the snakes and the lizards. Perky men, trim women and very, very much... love.
Dobruja
http://www.bulgare.net/show.php?lang=en&scene=5
The North-East part of Bulgaria - among the Danube, the Black Sea, Razgrad, Shumen and Varna. Where the land yields the sprays of life, used by the Dobruja - people to make the softest, the sweetest smelling and the most delicious bread. The land which fascinated Khan Asparouh - the land where he stabbed in his sword and said: ”Here will be Bulgaria!”
The main occupation of Dobruja-people is work. They are exclusively hard-working - very good farmers and herdsmen, but also very good masters - potters, bakers, carpenters... There is, however, one area, in which they are really unsuprassed masters - When they begin to dance, the land shakes and the air becomes red iron - hot.
Stranja
http://www.bulgare.net/show.php?lang=en&scene=6
The land of the fire-dancers - the people who dance in the fire, protected by unknown forces. A ritual, filled with mysticism, superstition and faith. Music, coming out of the depth of the supernatural. A force coming from God or from Devil.
Thrace
http://www.bulgare.net/show.php?lang=en&scene=7
Pretty Thrace. The most luxuriant land of Bulgaria. Plenty of fruits and vegetables, wine and brandy, music and songs. The best musicians-improvisors are mostly from Thrace. The most beautiful women in Bulgaria are Thracian. A land of abun - dance and fullness; a land filled with the smell of roses and wine; a land where one can be completely happy.
Who hasn't heard about the waits from Jambol? Who hasn't heard about the brandy from Sliven? Who hasn't heard about the voices of Zaghora? Who hasn't heard about the roses of Kazanlak? Who doesn't know the Thracians? Who doesn't know anything about the ”honey-sweet-kavals”?
Who doesn't, he doesn't know Bulgaria, because THIS IS BULGARIA!
