Chairs of terror
Leaders of the autonomy-seeking Seklers, who struggle for the re-establishing of the Sekler Chairs, have recently made alliance with a terrorist Chinese group, part of the US black list. The Agreement between the Seklers' National Council and the Uyghur Forum became official on June 18, 2006, at Ditrau, Harghita. The Uyghur leaders did not take part in the meeting, as they did not get an entrance visa for Romania. The Seklers' National Council chairman, Jozsef Csapo went to the Uyghur Forum in München, on June 5, 2006, to get the signatures of the terrorist-suspected organization's leaders.
The request for autonomy that a group of Seklers made took a new turn. Leaders of the Seklers' National Assembly have recently signed a collaboration agreement with an organization suspected of terrorist activities: the Uyghur Forum is one of the separatists' organizations in the Chinese province of Xinjiang. The Uyghur-Xinjiang Autonomous Region is situated in the far western of the People's Republic of China, and it is the largest administrative unit in the country. The Uyghur people represent the largest ethnic group in this region, according to the 1982 census, numbering six million persons. Emigration claims that data published by the Chinese officials are not real, as the Uyghur population numbers about 20 million. Uyghurs are Muslim and they speak their own language, the Uyghur. They call the country they want to found East Turkestan.
Members of the East Turkestan Islamic Movement are training in Ossama bin Laden's camps. This radical Islamic militant group was included in 2002 on the US lists of terrorist organizations. Uyghur extremists have planned a terrorist attack over the US Embassy in Kyrgyzstan. Chinese secret services, together with their Russian and American colleagues have thwarted the action.
Leaders of the Seklers' National Council have signed a treaty with the Uyghur Forum organization, which is part of the East Turkestan Islamic Movement. The avowed aim of the agreement was stipulated in the document as a "regular-basis collaboration in view to achieving the common interests". "The common past of several centuries of the two people makes us discover and cultivate it; lest us interpret it and consider it as a brotherhood relationship", says the text. The investigations SRI made after the signing of the agreement got on the table of the General Parquest. By this, leaders of the Seklers' Council have drawn upon them the attention of SRI (the Romanian Intelligence Service) and DIICOT (Romanian Directorate of Investigation of the Organized Crime and Terrorism). Sources from the Parquet say CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) has requested information on the new alliance. (L.I.)
