The economic crisis has affected sex tourism in the Bulgarian Black Sea resort of Sunny Beach. The prostitutes at Sunny Beach, who are mostly Bulgarians, Russians, Ukrainians, and Moldavians, are forced to offer their services at very low prices because of the lack of clients, the BGNES news agency reports, as the global economic crisis has caused a drop in the number of foreign tourists visiting top Bulgarian resorts.
BGNES reports that the hourly rate for "standard sex" at Sunny Beach has dropped from 50-100 euros to 25 euros per hour, whereas the hiring of a girl for an entire night has gone down to as low as 40-50 euros.
Some of the prostitutes are even reported to have left their pimps because they could not pay them "protection" money.
BGNES reminds readers of a report issued by the Face-to-Face NGO which states that some 50% of all prostitutes come from families in which abuse and brutality were commonplace.
The Bulgarian prostitutes working at Sunny Beach are said to come from the regions of Ruse, Plovdiv, Svilengrad, and Petrich.
