3e steigerte den Umsatz

Heuer will die Welser Heimwerkergruppe den Markt Albanien in Angriff nehmen

Linz - Die Heimwerkergruppe 3e mit Sitz in Wels konnte den Umsatz 2008 im Vergleich zum Vorjahr um 4,4 Prozent auf 540 Mio. Euro steigern.

EC to grant 60.9m euros to Albania

The European Commission (EC) announced it would grant 60.9m euros to Albania as part of its pre-accession partnership.

The funds will finance 24 projects in administrative reform, education and rural infrastructure, in order to bring Albania closer to EU membership.

EC Ambassador to Tirana Helmuth Lohan and Albanian EU Integration Minister Majlinda Bregu also signed an agreement worth 3.1m euros to help Albania rebuild a village near Gerdec, damaged in the deadly munition blast a year ago. The funds will finance the reconstruction of a school, water supply and sewage system. Opposition parties plan to commemorate victims of the tragedy Sunday.

In other news Monday, President Bamir Topi submitted his application for a new electronic ID card and called on others to follow his example. He noted the new identity documents would enable citizens to vote in the June parliamentary elections and would make travel to EU countries easier. Separately, Interior Minister Bujar Nishani rejected claims by opposition parties that the process for issuing new ID cards had failed. He said that all those who applied in February could expect their cards now.

IFC approves loan to further privatize Albanian heavy oil field

WASHINGTON, DC, May 13 -- International Finance Corp. agreed to financially support further privatization of Albania's Patos Marinza oil field with a $50 million loan to Bankers Petroleum Ltd., Calgary, the World Bank Group member said on May 11.
Bankers operates and has full rights to develop the Patos Marinza and Kucova heavy oil fields under a 25-year license agreement with the Albanian National Agency for Natural Resources, and a petroleum agreement with Albania's national oil company, Albpetrol SHA, according to information posted on Bankers Petroleum's web site.
Patos Marinza is the largest onshore oil field in continental Europe, with about 2 billion bbl of oil in place, it added. IFC, which also approved a $5 million environmental term loan to Bankers, said that it also may make an equity investment of up to $9.5 million.
Its announcement came hours after the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in London said that it plans to make a similar $64.5 million financial commitment.

IFC said that Bankers' Albanian subsidiary has been operating a small portion of the Patos Marinza field since 2004. The expansion of its activity will modernize the field's operation by transferring specialized technical knowledge to a largely local workforce, it said.

This will contribute revenue to Albania's government and help promote foreign investment in the country's petroleum industry, IFC added.

The loans also will support significant environmental improvement in one of Europe's most badly polluted oil fields following decades of mismanagement, both multigovernment financing institutions said. They said that Bankers will clean up existing wells it takes over and help reduce pollution and oil field contamination as it expands its activities.

IFC said that the United Nations Development Program classified Patos Marinza as one of Albania's pollution hot spots. It said that since the cleanup involves additional stakeholders, IFC and EBRD have established a working group to formulate environmental and social strategies. The agencies already have spoken with Albania's ministries to secure their support, and with the European Union to align ongoing initiatives, it added.

Bankers said it is in the process of creating a development plan for the second field, Kucova, which it expects to use a combination of reactivations, recompletions and secondary recovery techniques such as waterfloods.

Albania to Invest 800 Million Euro in Development of Ohrid Lake Shore

Albania will invest 800 million euro in tourism development in its part of the Ohrid Lake shore and the town of Podgradec, Prime Minister Sali Berisha told national media today.

The investment will make Podgradec and the Albanian shore of the Ohrid Lake into an impressive tourism centre, Berisha told the Shekulli national newspaper.

The funds, which are included in the Ecological Protection of Lake Ohrid programme, will be co-financed with Germany, the Prime Minister explained. He added that the sewer system in Podgradec will be constructed according to European standards.

Once a favourite summer escape for many communist government officials and particularly Enver Hoxha, the town of Podgradec went into a state of decay and disrepair after communism in Albania collapsed in the early 1990s. But in recent years, it has slowly began to revive and catch up its neighbouring town of Ohrid on the Macedonian side, which has enjoyed immense popularity as a summer resorts both among Macedonians and tourists from the region.

In trying to bring the town to its former glory, private investors and the government have started spending funds on rebuilding and refurbishing hotels and improving infrastructure.
