Now that the Via Dinarica trail will finally be completed this year, fully connecting over 1,200 miles of trekking trails across seven countries — Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, Kosova, Serbia, and Slovenia — the western Balkan region is ripe for an outdoor adventure. Sutjeska National Park in Bosnia is often referred to as the Yosemite of the Balkans, and it’s a must-see if you’re making your way along the Via Dinarica trail. But if you have to pick one spot to settle down in and relax, you can’t go wrong in Montenegro.
