[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif] Brussels - The EU Commission has allocated €125 million for Kosovo for the budget year 2008. Priority will be given to the rule of law, social policies, European standards and the development of the education system.

Mr. Kjartan Bjornson, head of the EU Commission in Kosovo said that they have tried to prioritise their help on socio-economical issues in Kosovo as this is what Kosovo needed most.

Deputy Prime Minister Hajredin Kuçi on the other hand emphasised that Kosovo is thankful to the EU and that the Kosovar Government will provide additional 15 million EUR for these purposes. He continued saying that Kosovo has an EU integration agenda.

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif] Prishtina - Head of Austria’s Liaison Office in Prishtina, Gernot Pfandler met Friday the Kosovar Minister of Trade and Industry (MTI), Lutfi Zharku and discussed the cooperation between the Austrian Office and MTI as well as the interest of Austrian companies to invest in Kosovo.

Pfandler was accompanied in this meeting by the representative of Austrian Development Agency in Kosovo, Mr. Andreas Fritz and the representative of Austrian Economic Chamber in Kosovo, Ms. Vjosa Huruglica.

Pfandler confirmed discussing with minister Zharku the cooperation between the Austrian Liaison Office and MTI in the future as wll as investments of Austrian companies in the Republic of Kosovo. He said Austrian Office supports the Economic Initiative for Kosova (ECIKS) and the Agency for Development of Small and Medium Enterprises.

On the other hand, minister Zharku said the ministry he’s heading will continue realization of important projects.

“We will continue with the projects and we are ready to wrap up those projects. MTI has handed over some projects to the Austrian Development Agency and we have discussed the conclusion of those. You know that in one such project financed by ADA, the Vienna based Economic Initiative for Kosova (ECIKS) officially represents the Investment Promotion Agency of Kosovo (IPAK) for German-speaking countries”, said minister Zharku.

He confirmed discussing in the course of the meeting with the Austrian officials investments of Austrian companies in Kosovo.

“We will organize the Austrian Investor's Day in Kosovo”, said minister Zharku.

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Kosovo: Switzerland, Denkmark invest in agriculture

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif] Prishtina - The Governments of Switzerland and Denmark are currently investing in a joint project, aimed at developing the horticulture in Kosovo, has been acknowledged Friday at the inauguration of the project “Promotion of Horticulture in Kosovo”.

Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development (MAFRD), Idriz Vehapi, said the horticulture project will support fabrication of horticulture products.

“Our aim in the first line is increasing the productivity, loans for the farmers, honest competition between the producers and the import, promotion of local products, etc”, said Vehapi.He added that all this will be achieved with the donor’s contribution, while the MAFRD cooperation will be transparent in all projects.

Minister Vehapi said financial capacities of the Government were limited to support the agriculture, although there were some activities to aid the agriculture, such as removal of VAT for agricultural products.

On the other hand, representative of the Swiss Office, Senior Vendt, said Switzerland has supported the horticulture sector in Kosovo since 2001, throughout the Swiss project for promotion of horticulture.

Denmark’s representative, Jorgen Andersen, said this country joined the project in 2007.

“We have established a joint partnership between Switzerland, Denmark and Kosovo. We are today opening a new era. Yesterday, my Government has recognized Kosovo as independent state. We will be committee to Kosovo even in the future”, Anderson said.

Otherwise, Switzerland since 2002 has invested more than 8 million Swiss franks in the horticulture sector of Kosovo.

[/FONT]
[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif] Prishtina, UNMIK/Kosovo Customs Service has collected over €520 million for the Kosovo Budget during the past year, which is €80 million more than the same period of the previous year.

“During 2007, Customs has successfully prevented the smuggling of different products. We have also decreased the fiscal evasion from the Northern part of Kosovo,” said Adriatik Stavileci, Customs Spokesperson.

He added that most of the incomes come from import of gas, oil, cigarettes and alcohol. According to the Customs data, for the period January-November 2007, Kosovo imported 326 million litres of oil and its products.
