| 21 July 2009 |
Kosovo Police have uncovered a circa 1.5 hectare cannabis plantation near the village of Suhadoll in Lipjan today.
According to officers, the area, where around 30,000 cannabis plants were found, was camouflaged with potatoes and corn.
“The police have started to remove the cannabis sativa in the area”, said Agron Borovci, police spokesperson for the Pristina region.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the land is owned by a Serb, but the cannabis was planted by a local Albanian.
The supervisor of the police operation, Faik Dili, told Kosovo media that “this case represents a record for cannabis [...] found in Kosovo”.
Lipjan is a town half an hour's drive from Pristina, in central Kosovo.
At the time of publication, there had been no arrests in connection with the case, though intensive investigations were underway.
