Macedonia manhandled Portugal earlier this evening, beating the Iberian peninsula nation 26-19 on its way to the European championship in Denmark.
It was a must win for the team in red, and they responded well despite strange set of circumstences when before the match HC Metalurg's owner Mincho Jordanov in a highly unprofessional manner decided to fire several players who play for Macedonia.
Clearly, the timing was such to disrupt Macedonia qualification chances, however despite the newly developed circumstanced the team pulled together and showed superb play throughout the match.
Portugal never posed a threat, with Macedonia taking a 4 goal lead at the half (14-10). With a minor scare midway through the second half (19-17), the team in red scored few goals in a row and put the match away for good.
Lazarov was his brilliant self with 9 goals, followed by Mirkulovski with 7. Ristovski had 13 saves.[/TD]
