Kalemegdan (Serbian Cyrillic: Калемегдан) is a fortress and park in an urban area neighborhood of Belgrade, the capital of Serbia. It is located in Belgrade's municipality of Stari Grad. Kalemegdan is the core and the oldest section of the urban area of Belgrade and for centuries the city population was concentrated only within the walls of the fortress, thus the history of the fortress, until most recent history, equals the history of Belgrade itself. First settlement was founded in the 3rd century BC by the Celtic tribe of Scordisci. The city-fortress was later conquered by the Romans, became known as Singidunum and became a part of "the military frontier", where the Roman Empire bordered "barbaric Central Europe".
Subotica (Serbian: Суботица) is a city and municipality in northern Serbia. Today it is Serbia's fifth largest city, with the municipality of Subotica numbering 148,401 people. It is the administrative centre of the North Bačka District.
Sarma is a noun derived from the Turkish verb sarmak, which means "wrapping" or "rolling". Minced meat (beef, pork), rice, onions, and various spices, including salt, pepper and various local herbs are mixed together and then rolled into large pickled plant of sour cabbage leaves. The combination is then boiled for several hours. It is is a traditional meal for Christmas Eve in Serbia.
