Why So Serious?

MoI solves major cases involving violent attacks, 28 charges filed
MIA - Macedonian Information Agency - MoI solves major cases involving violent attacks, 28 charges filed -
Skopje, 10 March 2012 (MIA) - Police have filed charges for violent crime against 28 people in connection to the latest incidents amongst young people. Police officers have been ordered to use public transportation when going to work, Interior Minister Gordana Jankuloska said Saturday after a meeting of the Skopje Sector of Interior Affairs.

The Interior Ministry (MoI), Jankuloska stated, has solved all major cases involving attacks that took place in the past few days in Skopje. Charges have been filed against people of different ethnic background with the youngest being only 11 years old.

"28 charges have been brought in connection to recent attacks. Seven other people are being interviewed." she stressed.

Police have also solved some of the incidents that happened overnight when a public bus was pelted with rocks and 10 cars were damaged in one of Skopje's settlements. Six minors have been charged, including an 11-year old.

"MoI resumes its activities to solve all cases, even though most of them have been closed. With this, we want to send a clear message that all those who will resort to violent crimes will be punished. Violence cannot be tolerated in any circumstance," Jankuloska pledged.

As a preventive measure, police officers have been ordered to use public transportation in an attempt "citizens to feel safer and to increase their trust in institutions."

Gruevski condemns recent violent incidents, calls them 'cowardly and dishonest'
MIA - Macedonian Information Agency - PM Gruevski condemns recent violent incidents, calls them 'cowardly and dishonest' -
Skopje, 10 March 2012 (MIA) - Premier Nikola Gruevski has condemned recent violent incidents in Skopje and in several other cities in Macedonia calling on stakeholders to respect country's coexistence. He stressed that the violent behaviour was "dishonest and illegal" and that perpetrators would be punished.

"Firstly, let me condemn the acts of some people who make reckless steps - they are cowardly, dishonest and illegal. I urge everybody to refrain from such incidents. Parents and teachers should have an influence over young people to make reasonable decisions. Young people should use their energy for positive, creative things instead to disturb peace and tranquility of the citizens," Gruevski stated.

He called on political stakeholders not to abuse the situation by using "hate speech" in an attempt to directly or indirectly encourage teenagers to take part in such incidents. By doing so, the PM added, they are creating a bad image for themselves as political factors.

"I urge everyone - political and non-political stakeholders, individuals, citizens, teachers, professors, parents including young people - to act with responsibility in the spirit of coexistence, which has been built in Macedonia for years, decades even centuries," PM Gruevski pledged.

He added that the Interior Ministry and other relevant institutions would take measures to bring the perpetrators to justice.
