Bosnia's Telekom Srpske 2010 profit up 5.3 percent
BANJA LUKA, Bosnia, March 2 (Reuters) - Bosnia's Telekom Srpske said its 2010 pretax profit rose 5.3 percent to 120.3 million Bosnian marka ($85 million) on revenue down 11.3 percent at 488 million marka.
"Around 55 percent of revenues came from mobile telephony," general manager Predrag Culibrk told a news conference on Wednesday, adding the number of mobile subscribers rose 9.4 percent to 1.34 million, giving it a 40 percent market share.
Culibrk said Telekom Srpske planned a single-digit rise in revenue this year. "We shall be satisfied if we leave behind all difficulties that we have had," he said.
The number of fixed-line subscribers at Bosnia's second-largest telecom company fell 3 percent to 344,132.
"Since 2010 marked the end of recession, we expected to see an impact on the macroeconomic situation in Bosnia ... This has not happened," Culibrk said, adding he hoped the situation would improve this year.
The company, based in the Serb Republic and majority owned by Serbia's Telekom Srbija, saw earnings per share up 4.8 percent to 0.22 marka, said executive financial director Jasmina Lopacic.
Shares of Telekom Srpske TLKM.BJ rose 1.8 percent to 1.68 marka.
Culibrk said the company laid off 110 workers last year and paid them severance packages amounting to 5.7 million marka.
He said Telekom Srpske's acquisition of a 49 percent stake in Montenegro's mobile operator m:tel last year proved successful, giving it a 24 percent market share in the neighbouring country. (Reporting by Gordana Katana, writing by Daria Sito-Sucic; Editing by Adam Tanner and David Holmes)
