Erdoğan, Berisha to open Albania-Kosovo highway Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, along with his Albanian counterpart, Sali Berisha, will later this month inaugurate a highway connecting Albania and Kosovo, the Anatolia news agency has reported.

Turkish-US consortium Bechtel-Enka constructed a 61-kilometer stretch of the highway, running between the Albanian cities of Durres and Kukes, Anatolia reported, adding that the highway would reduce travel time from Durres to the Morina checkpoint on the border with Kosovo from six hours to two.
At the end of May, one lane of the highway was opened for traffic with an official ceremony marking the end of the construction of Kalimash tunnel, the most important part of the highway. “We have torn down the wall between Albanians,” Berisha was then quoted as saying by Anatolia during that ceremony, which was also attended by Kosovar Prime Minister Hashim Thaci.
