A group of Greek research institutions and companies are exploring opportunities for floating offshore wind development off the coasts of Greece.
Chalkis Shipyards is working in collaboration with the National Technical University of Athens, the Hellenic Center for Marine Research and other institutions on the 'Windfloat.gr – Innovative Design of Floating Wind Plants for the Greek Seas' initiative.
The shipyard said Windfloat.Gr is seeking to exploit the wind potential of Greek waters and significantly increase the penetration of renewable energy in the country.
Specifically, Windfloat.Gr is looking at the development of offshore wind farms across a 10km zone in the Aegean Sea.
Chalkis said the research is focussing on the optimal design of floating wind turbines and wind parks adapted to conditions in Greek Seas.
