Trajkovski plane crash investigation ends
JANUARY 8, 2014BY ALEKSANDRAIN MACEDONIACOMMENTS
The commission investigating the plane crash in which President Boris Trajkovski was killed has completed its work. Findings are to be presented in Skopje in light of the 10. anniversary from the crash this February.
“The investigation has been completed. The final technical issues are ongoing. The team of investigators will present the facts in Skopje in a month at the latest”, commission chairman Omer Kulic told the Macedonian Radio Television.
The investigation largely differs from the initial one, when the pilots were seen as cause for the crash. Through a simulation flight, investigators found there had been deviations from the flight procedures, but also problems in navigation instruments.
The plane crash investigation was reopened upon Macedonia’s request, after additional evidence was obtained.
The plane crash that killed President Trajkovski, his entourage and the crew occurred on 26 February 2004 in the area of village Rotimlje near Mostar.
According to the results of the initial investigation, the cause for the accident were “procedural errors of pilots during the landing phase at Mostar airport”.
