Zhelev calls EU and Greece to recognise Macedonia’s constitutional name
Sofia, February 4. (MIA). All of us should support Macedonia's aspiration for full-fledged membership in the EU and the NATO, former Bulgarian President Zhelyo Zhelev said at a public discussion themed "The role of the civil and expert’s potential in the foreign policy of Bulgaria in the light of the 'red card' given by Sofia to Skopje’s EU bid."
We should not block Macedonia's way to the EU and to NATO. Certainly it must meet all criteria and requirements which are fulfilled also by other Balkan countries which have already become full-fledged members to EU and NATO. Euro-Atlantic integration should be a policy of all of us for uniting the Balkan countries. It is absolutely necessary, Zhelev said.
Bulgaria is the first country to recognise Macedonia's independence on Jan. 15, 1992 during Zhelev's presidency.
He reiterated his thesis that the European Commission is to blame for the problem of the name of Macedonia.
How can be allowed others to decide for the name of a country. This mechanism for passing decision with full consensus is idiotism. In this way the neighbours are literally allowed to argue with the country which is reviewed, Zhelev said and called EU and Greece to recognise Macedonia under its constitutional name.
According to him "the right to choose name of own country is holy right and no one can violate it." Zhelev said that the dispute with name "Macedonia" is similar to the one as someone to dispute the name "Greece" because the country in the history was not only named Greece but also Byzantium and Ellada.

–Сите ние треба да го поддржиме стремежот на Македонија за полноправно членство во ЕУ и НАТО, изјави поранешниот бугарски претседател Жељу Желев на јавна дискусија на тема „Улогата на граѓанско-експертскиот потенцијал во надворешната политика на Бугарија во контекст на ’Црвениот картон’ на Софија кон Скопје за преговорите со ЕУ“
Бугарија е првата земја што ја признава независноста на Македонија на 15 јануари 1992 година, токму кога Желев беше шеф на државата.
Тој ја повтори својата теза дека главниот виновник за проблемот со името на Македонија е Европската комисија.
- Како може да се дозволи други да го решаваат името на една држава. Овој механизам за донесување одлуки со целосен консензус е идиотизам. На тој начин буквално им се овозможува на соседите да се расправаат со државата која се разгледува, нагласи Желев и ги повика ЕУ и Грција да ја признаат Македонија под уставното име.
Според него, „правото да се избере името на сопствената држава е свето право и никој не може да го прекрши“. Желев рече дека спорот за името „Македонија“ е сличен на тоа која сега некој би го оспорил името „Грција“ затоа што во историјата на земјата таа не се викала само Грција, туку и Византија и Елада.

er meinte einmal, die ntopios sind die echten makedonen, und hat ein paar seiner geliebten youtube videos gepostet. hatte seitdem den verdacht, er wäre einer dieser verlorenen seelen.
