Turkey, Kosovo should sign free trade deal says minister

Turkish State Minister Zafer Caglayan attended Turkey-Kosovo Commercial and Economic Cooperation Forum in Pristina, Kosovo.

Caglayan said at the meeting that Turkey had always supported Kosovo in the international arena and would continue to do so in the future.

"We are in favor of improving our good-neighborly relations with adjacent and neighboring countries. We want to further develop our relations with Kosovo as well," he said.

Referring to commercial relations between the two countries, Caglayan said, "our trade volume currently stands at 285 million USD. We need to increase this amount up to billions of dollars. We are ready to take any step to develop our commercial and economic relations."

Caglayan added that Turkey and Kosovo needed to sign a free trade agreement and an agreement to prevent double taxation as soon as possible to boost commercial relations.

Kosovo to increase efforts to guarantee equality of languages




Arsim Bajrami, Kosovo’s Minister of Public Services, remarked today in front of the Assembly of Kosovo that the equality of languages in Kosovo is regulated in the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo guaranteeing full equality of languages while the practical use of languages is regulated by law. Minister Bajrami said that his Ministry is monitoring the implementation of the law in the central level while the Ministry for Local Administration and Governance is responsible to monitor the implementation in the local level. Minister Bajrami said that his Ministry will increase its efforts to ensure even better implementation of the Law on the use of languages and the same is applicable also for the Ministry of Local Administration and Governance to ensure that the law is fully implemented throughout the territory of Kosovo.

Article 5 of the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo defines the use of languages
1. The official languages in the Republic of Kosovo are Albanian and Serbian.
2. Turkish, Bosnian and Roma languages have the status of official languages at the municipal level or will be in official use at all levels as provided by law.

No visas on Kosovo passports to travel to South Korea




Kosovo daily “Koha Ditore” has published today the announcement that the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo, travelling with Kosovo passports, from now on are able to travel to South Korea without a visa. Koha Ditore basses its report quoting officials from the consular service in the South Korean Embassy in Vienna. Kosovo’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs until late yesterday did not receive any official confirmation of this development.

Çaglayan: Strong state of Kosovo has a meaning for Turkey




Minister of Economy and Finance, Ahmet Shala, hosted a Turkish delegation consisting of parliamentarians and business and led by Minister of Foreign Trade of the Republic of Turkey, Zafer Çaglayan, then signed an agreement for economic cooperation, and were initiated several other agreements in this area, while the Turkish delegation gave promise for deepening of cooperation of these two countries in the future.

Türkei und Kosovo unterzeichnen wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit




Der türkische Industrie- und Handelsminister Zafer Caglayan besucht zurzeit den Kosovo und hat am zweiten Tag seines Besuches ein Treffen mit dem Wirtschafts-und Finanzminister des Kosovo, Ahmet Shala wahr genommen. Bei diesem Treffen unterzeichneten die beiden Minister ein Übereinkommen für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit zwischen der Türkei und dem Kosovo. Während des Treffens sagte Caglayan, dass ein starker Staat des Kosovo wichtig für die Türkei sei.
Der türkische Minister besuchte auch das türkisch-kosovarische Wirtschafts-Forum in Prishtina. Dort sagte er, dass die Türkei den Kosovo immer im internationalen Bereich unterstützt habe und dies auch in Zukunft tun werde.

Caglayan fügte hinzu, dass die Türkei und der Kosovo so schnell wie möglich eine Vereinbarung zum freien Handel und eine Vereinbarung zur Verhinderung von doppelten Steuern unterzeichnen sollten, um die wirtschaftlichen Beziehungen beider Länder zu fördern.

The Kosovo Government drafts plan against organized crime




Today in its 66th meeting the Government of Kosovo has decided to start drafting the “National Strategy for Collection of Illegal Weapons” and the “National Strategy and Action Plan for Crime Prevention”. These measures are a part of the continuous efforts of the Kosovo Government to fight organized crime.The Government has also decided to open two new border crossings with the Republic of Albania in Glloboçicë and Qafë Gjonaj.

Kosovo plans Embassy and a high level visit to Saudi Arabia





After the adoption of the OIC resolution on Kosovo, the Kosovo Government is planning to actively engage in the Middle East. Senior Government officials have confirmed to “The Kosovo Times” that there are plans to establish as soon as possible embassies in Riyadh and Abu Dhabi and also work on bilateral agreements with Saudi Arabia and other OIC countries.



Vlora Citaku, Kosovo Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, told “The Kosovo Times” that Kosovo plans to open soon the Embassy of the Republic of Kosovo in Riyadh. “One of our main priorities in Ministry of Foreign Affairs is to establish as soon as possibile diplomatic relations with the Saudi Arabia. Although we have a very modest number of Embassies, because our limited budget does not allow us to have Embassies in all the countries that have recognized us, on the very day when we got the news for recognition from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the decision to open the Kosovo Embassy in Riyadh was made on unison from the highest institutions of our country", Citaku said for "The Kosovo Times".


Deputy Minister Citaku also said that Kosovo is happy and honored to send a high level delegation for the first official visit to Riyadh as soon as the two countries agree on a date; “Our President, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister would be more than delighted and honored to pay a visit to Riyadh as soon as possible. Currently we are working to try to fix a date of convenience“.


Every year there are around 2000 Pilgrims from Kosovo travelling to Saudi Arabia to visit the holy sites in Makah and Madinah for Hajj and Umrah. With every other independent country the Government of Saudi Arabia has bilateral agreements on regulating and ensuring safe travel and safe stay of Pilgrims during Hajj. The Government of Kosovo believes that this is an area where Kosovo and Saudi Arabia could start their bilateral cooperation because Kosovo wants to take responsibility for their citizens and be there for its citizens. This discussion could prove beneficial and open the path to proceed with economic and other cooperation.


Saudi Arabia is the 58th state to recognize Kosovo. The recognition by Saudi Arabia was highly welcomed by the people and the government of Kosovo and was also praised by US Vice President Biden and the French Foreign Ministry. Kosovo believes that the recognition and influence of Saudi Arabia, as one of the most important Muslim countries, will encourage other Muslim countries to recognize Kosovo.

Kosovo Arab Chamber supports Kosovo Gov’ts intention to have full diplomatic relations with Saudi Arabia





The Kosovo Arab Chamber for Friendship and Cooperation issued a press release supporting the intention of the Government of Kosovo to establish diplomatic relations with Saudi Arabia which was recently confirmed to ”The Kosovo Times” as well.


“The Kosovo Arab Chamber for Friendship and Cooperation welcomes and fully supports the intention of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo to establish diplomatic relations with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and open the Embassy of the Republic of Kosovo in Riyadh. We also welcome and are extremely happy for the expressed desire and intention to visit Riyadh in a delegation of the highest level”.


The Kosovo Arab Chamber further explains the practical need for such relations. “The presence of the permanent diplomatic mission of the Republic of Kosovo in Riyadh could prove of a great help for thousands of Kosovo pilgrims visiting the holy sites every year, for hundreds of students and businessmen from Kosovo who are working and studying in Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries”.









In the end the press release also reflects on the need for Kosovo to foster relations with Saudi Arabia saying that “the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is the birth place of Islam and therefore the Kingdom is a very important country throughout the Muslim world. The recognition of Kosovo’s independence by Saudi Arabia is a very important moment in Kosovo’s statehood process. This fact was also noted by important statesmen from around the world including US Vice President Biden”.
