Skopje, 20 May 2012 (MIA) - Macedonia will promote films "Balkan Is Not Dead" of Aleksandar Popovski and "The Third Half" of Darko Mitrevski at the 65. Cannes Film Festival on Sunday and Monday.

The films will be screened in Cannes' Southeast Europe pavilion, which presents the latest film achievements from Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia&Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Serbia and Montenegro.

Besides these two films, Macedonia is also promoting Teona Strugar Mitevska's "The Woman Who Brushed Off Her Tears", which had its world premiere at this year's Berlin film fest.

Moreover, "Balkan Is Not Dead" and "The Third Half" producer Robert Naskov will take part at event "Producers on the Move 2012", organized by European Film Promotion, alongside 24 other producers from network member-states.

Besides the film presentations, the Macedonian Film Fund will also work hard on promoting Macedonia as a filming destination and a country with lowest personal taxes and benefits for filmmakers.

Two Macedonian films awarded in Monaco
Macedonian feature film "Punk's Not Dead" by Vladimir Blazevski has won an award for best movie script at the 7th charity film festival in Monaco, held between May 8-15, the Film Fund of Macedonia has said.

"Punk's Not Dead" has won 11 prizes at festivals worldwide thus far. Moreover, the short film "Unfinished Story" by Naum Mihajlovski has won a special award by festival's jury in competition with other short films.

The film, which is a Macedonian-Czech co-production, had its official premiere outside Macedonia at the festival.

The film festival in Monaco is an annual charity event dedicated to the Virlanie Foundation in the Philippines for the benefit of abused and abandoned children.

Renowned Macedonian film director Milco Mancevski received Tuesday title National Artist 2012.
As of this year, Mancevski will get Denar 60,000 (EUR 1,000) monthly fee for the rest of his life.

"Upon reviewing the nomination from the Macedonian Cinematheque, the Commission decided that Mancevski meets criteria from the Law on National Artist. The title will be presented by President Gjorge Ivanov on September 8", said Culture Minister Elizabeta Kanceska-Milevska at a press conference.

According to her, Mancevski's comprehensive work focuses on promotion of Macedonia's film not only in the country, but in global terms.
"All criteria stipulated in the law are not unfeasible. I am truly glad that Mancevski is this year's laureate", added Kanceska-Milevska.

Macedonian Film presented at 2012 Cannes Festival
Skopje, 29 May 2012 (MIA) - For the third consecutive year, the Macedonian Film Fund (MFF) took part at this year's - 65th edition of Cannes Film Festival (16-27 May), presenting the Macedonian cinematic output to the rest of the film-making community, thus promoting the country as a location which provides low income taxes and guarantees the most favorable conditions for filmmakers.

Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Serbia, Cyprus and Albania joined forces in the presentation and promotion of South-Eastern European cinema at the regional SEE Pavilion, as part of this year's Cannes Film Market (Marche du Film), MFF Director Darko Baseski told reporters on Tuesday.

The Cannes Film Market, dubbed as one of the largest and most prestigious film industry trade markets in the world, is an annual meeting place of a vast number of producers, directors, festival programmers, sales agents, and other film industry professionals.

The Film Market hosted the screenings of three Macedonian films: Teona Strugar Mitevska's "The Woman Who Brushed off Her Tears', Aleksandar Popovski's 'Balkan Is Not Dead' and Darko Mitrevski's 'The Third Half'.

Macedonian producer Robert Naskov from the 'Kino Oko' company (which took part in the making of 'The Third Half' and 'Balkan Is Not Dead'), joined his colleagues from Europe in the European Film Promotion's programme - Producers on the move 2012.

I've had an opportunity to meet 20 colleagues from Europe, share experiences with our projects and their financing, Naskov said.

Skopje, 14 June 2012 (MIA) - The first Macedonian feature film "Frosina", premiered in 1952, had permanently pushed the borders of Macedonia's cinematography and opened a new era in the development of Macedonia's seventh art. The film fulfils the beautiful dream of many people introducing an original cinematic expression and criteria that are seen as a turning point in country's cinema.

This was stated by Minister of Culture Elizabeta Kanceska-Milevska at the Cinematheque of Macedonia at an event marking the diamond 60th jubilee since the premiere of "Frosina".

Speaking at the ceremony, she thanked the stars of the film, Meri Boskova, Ljupka Dzundeva and Aco Jovanovski, for presenting the Macedonian language for the first time on the big screen through the script written by Vlado Maleski.

"We remain consistent regarding our pledges to preserve our rich audiovisual cultural heritage, which is our national pride, but also we are not neglecting the film production. 62 Macedonian movies have been made in the past four years and some of them have been awarded at top international festivals," Kanceska-Milevska said.

The Cinematheque of Macedonia marked the 60th anniversary of the premiere of country's first feature film by organising a screening of the film and a photo exhibition.

Shot in 1951, "Frosina" was directed by Voislav Nanovic and written by Vlado Maleski.

dejan-zafirov1.jpg
icon_smile.gif
