Macedonia is breaking records in wine exports to foreign markets. Portal Leader came to the latest data from the Ministry of Agriculture showing that in 2013 has the largest wine export up until now – 885.331 hectoliters worth 50 million euro. If we compare the average for the period 2007 to 2012, exports last year is increased by 48 % in quantity and 24 % in value.
According to experts in the wine sector, Macedonia becomes recognizable wine brand with good quality at the foreign markets and unlike in the past, when mostly was exported bulk wine with much lower value, now is exported bottled wine with quality far better than the past. Analysis of the ministry, show that wine exports to the EU is increased by 45 %, while the average price is increased by 10 euro per hectoliters compared to last year.
“I am glad that it is accomplished the primary goal of all programs and measures of the Government and the Ministry of Agriculture for better promotion and recognition of Macedonian wine. As a result, thereof in the last few years, we have noticed the most significant increase in exports of bottled wine, wherein the amount of bottled wine exported in 2005 of more than 5.5 million liters is tripled and reaches the amount of 17 million liters. The increase in exports of bottled wine is particularly noticeable in countries that were targeted in joint appearance of Macedonian wineries at the fairs funded and supported by Ministry of agriculture and government – Germany, Russia, and China, said for Leader from the Ministry of Agriculture.
Exports of bottled wine in these countries has seen significant growth i.e. in Germany (3 times more in quantity and 2.8 times more in value), China ( 4.4 times in quantity and 3.8 times in value) and Russia 3.7 times in quantity and 2.7 times in value), according to preliminary results.
Apart from record exports, wine is sold with higher price
Besides the record amount and value, wine from Macedonia achieved the highest price per unit product for the last 10 years for the total export of wine (bottled and bulk) of 56.32 euro per hectoliter. Looking at certain countries is Germany is increased 5 times the amount of exported wine in bottles and 4 times in value. In Slovenia, it has increased 4 times the amount of exported wine in bottles and 3 times in value, in Hungary is increased for 4 times increased the quantity and total value of exported wine. In Romania is increased 2.5 times and the quantity and value of exported wine in bottles. In Slovakia for 3 times are increased quantities of exported wine and 3.5 times in value. China has doubled the amount of total wine exported, and 3.6 times its value, and at the exported wine in bottles is noted significant increase of 10 times in volume and 8 times in value. In Russia is increased by 60 % the amount of total exported wine and has doubled its value, while in Canada is doubled the wine export in quantity and value and in the United States we have tripled increase in exports of bottled wine and in quantity and value.
