The center has modules for theoretic pilot training, carrying out practical training, maintenance and operating of heliports and planes, flight simulators for helicopters Mi-17 and Mi-24, Gruevski said.

The center will be promoted outside the country and so far it is presented in NATO thus meeting highest Alliance’s standards. Gruevski thanked Elbit Systems company and all involved parties, state institutions that contributed the center to become operational.

By investing in own security Macedonia also invests in NATO security and its Euro-Atlantic future, President Ivanov said, adding that he is very proud that Macedonia gets modern training center with most sophisticated equipment in Southeast Europe and wider.

Macedonian army(ARM) will get rid of the outdated equipment and technology, announced Macedonia Army Chief of General Staff, Lieutenant General Goranco Koteski as cited by Dnevnik daily.
The army and the Defense Ministry have not disclosed yet their plans for the old equipment but according to Blagoja Markovski , retired colonel and doctor of military-political science, they will not earn much even if the equipment gets sold.
According to the plans of defense development announced so far, Macedonian army should dispose of part of the armored personnel carriers (APC), two types of artillery pieces as well as several types of missile systems and multiple rocket launcher.

“Unnecessary equipment may be sold, to Africa for example, but the army will not earn much because it will not get a good price and we also don’t own large quantities,” Markovski says.
It might be better, the expert says, if part of outdated equipment is modernized and transferred to the border police units.
“It would be ideal if the old APCs get modernized, to get their engines changed because the old ones use huge amounts of petrol. Modernization and replacement can be done by home companies and then can be transferred to the border police who can use them. But in order to get rid of the old equipment, ARM should get a new one first,” underlines Markovski .
That old petrol engines are one of the main reasons for the high cost of maintenance of a large part of the armored combat vehicles of ARM. The Army also has in its arsenal about 40 American APCs M - 113 , more than 30 old Soviet BTR – 60 and BTR - 70 as well as dozen of similar Soviet combat vehicles . They are all equipped with outdated petrol engines with huge fuel consumption.
Among the equipment appraised as unsuitable in ARM are the multi-purpose light-armored towing vehicles (MTLB) ,the infantry combat vehicles BMP - 2, the howitzers, the rocket systems BM - 21 “Grad” and 128mm “Flame" and missile systems "Igla" and "Arrow 1"

The Military Academy “General Mihailo Apostolski” in Skopje will introduce doctoral studies this year and an Institute of Cyber Terrorism will be open, Deputy Defense Minister Emil Dimitirev announced Friday.
Deputy Defense Minister attended the lecture US Ambassador to Macedonia, Paul Wohlers, gave at the Military Academy. According Dimitirev, the success of the Academy can be measured by several parameters.

“This year we’ve seen the first generation of the restored Military Academy’s graduates and they’re already part of the officer corps of the Macedonian Army. From what I hear from their superiors, we are talking about exceptionally high quality staff that is well educated, highly trained and represent excellent prospects for our Army. The fact that three countries of the region are educating its officers at our Academy is another indicator that its quality is high,” said Dimitriev.
Ambassador Wohlers noted that he is also a graduate of a Military Academy, the US Naval Academy, and that it is important these institutions exist and provide training for cadets as well as for the middle tier staff.
The Ambassador Wohlers’ lecture was entitled "The Place and Role of Military Diplomacy in the International Relations with Particular Reference to the Republic of Macedonia and the Region".
