The library of the Confucius Institute, opened last year as part of the Skopje University, has been enriched with more than 3,000 books, textbooks, teaching and audiovisual aids donated by the central administration of China's Confucius Institutes.
The editions will be available to nearly 40 Macedonian students studying the Chinese language and culture at the institute.
Minister of Education and Science Spiro Ristovski and Skopje University Rector Velimir Stojkovski visited Friday the Confucius Institute to extend gratitude for the support from China, its embassy in Skopje, the Chengdu Southwestern University of Finance and Economics in opening the institute in Macedonia.

"It's an extremely vital step toward intensifying the cooperation and communication between Macedonia and China, particularly due to the fact that Confucius Institutes are essential centers of Chinese culture, science and education around the globe... The donation for the Confucius Institute in Macedonia is of paramount importance for every interested student or citizen who wants to study Chinese," said Ristovski.

In addition to the classes organized by the Confucius Institute, ties with China are enhanced through various programs - Macedonian students will travel to China to study traditional Chinese medicine and to attend a summer camp held annually.
The institute's director Deng Shizhong said support was being provided by the Education Ministry for the center since its opening.

"The institute aims at improving Chinese language classes, supporting exchanges in culture and education and organizing events that will improve the relations between Macedonia and China in various spheres. Hopefully our activities in Macedonia will instigate love and interest into the Chinese language and culture, which is the objective of this book donation as a gift for the citizens of Macedonia," he noted.

One of the oldest high schools in the country, the agriculture school is going to crisis due to the lack of studnets. Photo:Telegraf.mk

In the agriculture high school "Kuzman Shapkarev" in Bitola, there has never been such a crisis in terms of enrollment of new students like in the last years, professor Jordan Kuzmanovski told daily Dnevnik. The number of students has decreased although the school is located in the agricultural region of Pelagonija. Some ten years ago, around 700 students were enrolled, and this year, only 120, meaning there are 5 times less students now than before."There are years with more and years with less students. This school has never seen such a crisis like in these years. We all know the birthrate in the country is decreasing. Nine years ago, there were 716 students. Ever since then, there are less and less students," Kuzmanovski said for Dnevnik.
In the first year of high school studies, only 30 students attend classes. School officials are taking measures to increase interest among high school students for agricultural studies. Recently, a presentation of the most contemporary agriculture mechanization, produced in the Czech Republic, was held, which is the only European country manufacturing tractors. Similar events are also held throughout the year."We make great efforts to increase interest for agriculture among young people. In general, in Macedonia and in the municipality of Bitola, the birthrate is decreasing and it is felt in the schools, including our school. Students who decide to study in our school are offered optimum conditions. We give our best to prepare them to be leaders in agricultural manufacturing," said the school’s director, Zoran Karanfilovski.
Moreover, this is one of the oldest schools in Macedonia, believed to be founded in 1908. There are records that in the past there was a cattle station where the school stands today, which served the Turkish army. Workers were tasked to train young people to handle livestock. The station was destroyed during the Balkan wars, and was restored as an agriculture school. The agriculture high school expects to receive a greater number of students this fall, by starting up two sports classes, as the school has a new sport facility since 2012.
