Macedonia-EU launch high level accession dialogue
MIA - Macedonian Information Agency - Macedonia-EU launch high level accession dialogue -
Skopje, 15 March 2012 (MIA) - The Republic of Macedonia and the European Union Thursday in Skopje will launch high level accession dialogue which will inject new dynamism into reform process and will boost the European perspective for the country.

The teams will be led by Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski and EU Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fule that are to open Chapters 23 and 24 that refer to five priority policy areas of freedom of expression, rule of law, public administration reform, electoral reform, and the economic criteria. Action plan with concrete goals, activities and deadlines as well as bodies in charge for their implementation in mentioned priority areas, are expected to be determined in the talks.

According to official Brussels the high level accession dialogue is not a replacement for accession negotiations but it is intended to enhance the cooperation between the European Commission and the government on the reform agenda.

- Our aim is to support the reform process, to inject new dynamism into it and to boost the European perspective for the country, Commissioner Fule said before leaving Strasbourg where he attended the plenary debate of the European Parliament on the Progress report on the Republic of Macedonia.

New page in relations between Macedonia and the EU opens by launching the high level accession dialogue. The dialogue gives special opportunity to improve processes with the EU and to give new encouragement in reforms in spheres intended to be discussed, Deputy PM for European Integration Teuta Arifi said Wednesday after the meeting with new EU Ambassador to Macedonia Aivo Orav.

EU Ambassador Aivo Orav pointed out that high level accession dialogue is unique opportunity for the country to use it maximally because the Macedonia's EU integration is also very important for the EU.

Brussels will launch high level accession dialogue in parallel with the screening process of Montenegro, so what Macedonia will work in the following period does not differ from formal screening, which follows after receiving date for negotiations.

According to EU sources, the fulfillment of obligations and presentation of good results to Brussels within the frames of the dialogue will means improvement of the position of the country. This will give additional arguments to the European Commission at the Summit in December to request unblocking the process of Macedonia's EU integration. It has been said that this kind of dialogue is the best solution at this point having in mind that the country was given candidate status since 2005 and three years in a row it was given recommendations by EC and European Parliament for start of pre-accession talks but not the date to start the talks. The obstacle for consensus regarding this issue is the Greece's blockade because of the name dispute.

EU Commissioner Fule today will meet PM Nikola Gruevski, Deputy PM for European Integration Teuta Arifi and will also hold talks with representatives of the opposition and civil society.
