Hier der Gund:
No Liberalization of Visas for Albanians
Prime Minister Sali Berisha insinuated yesterday during a declaration that the road to the liberalization of the visas in Albania is still very long. The declaration of the Albanian PM was given yesterday during a regular meeting of the State Committee on the War against Human Trafficing. During this meeting, while analysing the past and present situation of human trafficking, organised crime and corruption in our country, Berisha related visa liberalisation for Albanian citizens to the above phenomena. The head of the ruling majority said that before asking for free movement towards Europe, every Albanian must evaluate the fulfilment of the required standards leading to this step.“It is very easy to demand the free movement of persons to Europe and declare that they are making a ghetto of us, but it is better to first see where we stand in relation to the standards required for this kind of free movement. It is better to think that we can never be the street crime of Europe and we must not be that.”, the PM said while emphasising that the government and all the other respective institutions must take full responsibility to come out of this spiral. “We must take full responsibility to comeout of this spiral”, Berisha said. In this context, the forces of law and order, according to the PM, need a clear community policy against trafficking. The same applies to intelligence services and other agencies. Furthermore, Berisha emphasised that these measures do not imply that the war against trafficking has not existed so far, but that the government must convert this problem into a nation-wide issue. “Thus, the fast constitutionalisation of these committees, the work programme of these committees is of definitive importance. No-one more than us can feel compassion for Albanian girls. This is why we must make every attempt to stop this phenomenon”, the PM concluded.
