Kokino nomination to World Heritage List complete
Skopje, 18 March 2011 (MIA) - The World Heritage Center (WHC)has notified the UNESCO National Commission of the Republic of Macedonia that the nomination ofarchaeological-astronomical site Kokino for inclusion in the World Heritage List meets technical requirements and has been forwarded to International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) for further evaluation.
"As you know, according to paragraph 140 of the Operational Guidelines for the Implementation of the World Heritage Convention, the Secretariat is asked to check the completeness of the Nominations received and forward to the relevant Advisory Bodies only those nominations that were complete at the deadline of 1 February. The nomination of Archaeo-astronomical Site – Kokino met all the technical requirements outlined in the Operational Guidelines concerning completeness check of nominations to the World Heritage List", says WHC director Francesco Bandarin in the letter addressed to Lidija Topuzovska, secretary-general of the UNESCO National Commission of the Republic of Macedonia.
It adds that a copy of the nomination has been sent to ICOMOS for evaluation, wherefrom the Republic of Macedonia would be contacted separately over the arranging an evaluation mission to the property.
