Serbia to invest extra EUR 350 m. in Army and Eur 30 mil for fighter planes' overhaul
Serbia will invest EUR30 million in overhauling and modernization of six fighter planes and military helicopters, Serbian Finance and Defense Ministers, Mlagjan Dinkic and Zoran Stankovic announced today.
The presented the National Investment Plan for Defense, due to be executed by end 2007, at the military airport Batajnica.
The new plan foresees overhauling of five fighter jets Mig-29, one transport plane An-26 two gunships Mi-24 and five transport helicopters.
Dinkic stated that the draft of budget rebalance provides for allocating additional 3 billion dinars for the military purposes. In addition, it was decided to increase the salaries of the Army and Defense personnel by 20 percent.
"The National Investment Plan is aimed at recovering of the Serbian Army's dignity", Dinkic said, adding that the Government's objective is to achieve full professionalization of the Serbian Army by 2010, "with adequate rewarding of those protecting the homeland".
