The Government passed a decision at its last session over the construction of 100 multifunctional playgrounds in 70 municipalities, and support to the construction of two sports halls in the campuses of universities “Ss. Cyril and Methodius” in Skopje and Tetovo State University. “Each multifunctional playground will provide conditions for sports and recreation in several disciplines. They will be put at disposal of all citizens free of charge, thus representing the foundation for healthy generations and prevention from vices of modern life”, said Government Spokesman Aleksandar Gjorgjiev at Thursday’s press conference. Twenty-five playgrounds will be built in Skopje and its surrounding, whereas the remaining 75 in eastern and western Macedonia. The playgrounds would be built over the next two years and put into use in stages. Moreover, the Government would invest funds into the construction of sports halls in the Skopje and Tetovo universities, thus contributing to the development of university sport and physical education. |

German companies are interested for investments in Macedonia’s energy sector through construction of small hydro-plants. In the framework of the export potential project by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, representatives of five companies presented their experiences and results from their projects in the use of renewable energy sources before Macedonian businessmen. The conference “Small Hydro-Plants, Big Chance for Macedonia”, held in Skopje on Tuesday, brings together businessmen and experts from both countries, analyzing potentials of the Macedonian market and related regulations. Taking into consideration the moderate growth of the country’s economy and outdated facilities for electricity production, but also commitments arising from the EU Energy Charter, Macedonia invests increasing efforts over the use of renewable energy sources. Twenty-one percent of Macedonia’s energy consumption should come from renewable energy sources by 2020. German businessmen were briefed that focus has been put on the modernization of existing hydro-plants and building of new small plants. A tender for construction of 400 such plants was announced in 2007, with 68 agreements signed by July of this year. German companies see an opportunity for promotion at the Macedonian market through distribution of technology for hydro-plants, as well as consulting and know-how transfer. “There is a relatively good natural potential in Macedonia. The permitting procedure is important, including the necessity for its transparency”, said Ute Fehringer, consultant on renewable energy sources at the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology. Representative of the Saxonia hydro plants association Carsten Arndt said property issues need to be settled prior to the investment decision, along with proper technical development. “There are new techniques available in Germany and we are ready to cooperate with Macedonian companies in transferring our knowledge, resulting in profit for the region”, added Arndt. |
