Chinese Defense Minister Liang Guanglie pays Friday a visit to Macedonia.
He is set to meet with host Fatmir Besimi, focusing on bilateral relations in the defense field, as well as possibilities for their enhancement.
 
China and Macedonia agree on boosting military ties
Macedonian Defense Ministry said that the two countries agreed to boost military ties.

Chinese National Defense Minister Liang Guanglie held official talks in the Macedonian capital of Skopje on Friday.
Guanglie first met with his Macedonian counterpart Fatmir Besimi behind closed doors.
In a written statement released after the meeting, the Macedonian Defense Ministry said that the two countries agreed to boost military ties.
Guanglie later met with the Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov.

SKOPJE, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- China is ready to boost cooperation with Macedonia invarious fields, including the military, and raise bilateral ties to a new level, visitingChinese Defense Minister Liang Guanglie pledged here Friday.

China-Macedonia ties have been developing steadily since their normalization, Liangsaid when meeting with Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov.

Liang, the first Chinese defense minister to visit Macedonia, said the two countries hadcarried out frequent high-level exchanges, deepened political mutual trust andachieved positive results in cooperation in various areas.

China appreciates Macedonia's firm adherence to the one-China policy and hopesMacedonia would continue to support it on major issues of core interests, he said.

The Macedonian president said his country attaches great importance to cooperationwith China in such fields as politics, economy and culture. He expressed his thanks toChina for its long-term support and assistance to Macedonia.

Ivanov lauded the great achievements made by China in national construction andspoke highly of the significant role China had played in safeguarding internationalorder.

He vowed to step up military cooperation with China and deepen strategic mutual trustbetween the two countries.

Also on Friday, Liang met with Macedonian Defense Minister Fatmir Besimi and Chief ofthe General Staff Goranco Koteski, exchanging views on relations between the twocountries' armies and on regional security among other issues of common concern.

Skopje, 14 January 2013 (MIA) - A send-off ceremony of the contingent of the ARM's 1st Mechanised Infantry Brigade to ISAF peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan will be held Monday in "Jane Sandanski" military barracks in Stip.


Defence Minister Fatmir Besimi is to deliver an address at the ceremony and will hold talks with members of the contingent on their preparedness on carrying out future tasks in this mission.


In the course of the 14th rotation of ISAF mission, 157 members of Mechanised Infantry Brigade together with HQ officers will be deployed in ISAF HQ in Kabul.


"Scorpions" from 1st Mechanised Infantry Brigade started the mission in Afghanistan on June 2006 with one infantry mechanised detachment, whereat in the next two rotations their colleagues from second Mechanised Infantry Brigade successfully continued the mission.
