Toyota to manufacture Turkey's first hybrid car
Car giant Toyota is to start making a new hybrid car in Turkey later this year, the company said Thursday. A $450 million investment, which will create 1,000 jobs, will see the Japanese carmaker produce the first hybrid vehicle in Turkey.
Toyota’s European Chief Executive Johan van Zyl told a news conference in Istanbul that production capacity in Turkey would rise from 150,000 vehicles at its plant in Sakarya to 280,000.
“This is the first time somebody will make a hybrid vehicle in Turkey,” he said. The investment will see Toyota’s overall investment in Turkey rise to $2.3 billion.
