Das große Lexikon des Hellenismus vermittelt ein umfassendes Bild der vielfältigen Strömungen in Politik und politischer Ideologie, Gesellschaft und Religion, Philosophie, Literatur, Kunst, Medizin und Recht in der Zeit von der Mitte des 4. bis zum Ende des 1. Jahrhunderts v. Chr. Forschern und Studierenden der Altertumswissenschaften und der Nachbardisziplinen - wie Ägyptologie, Orientalistik, Sprachwissenschaft - soll es eine Hilfe zu gründlicher Orientierung und ein Wegweiser zu den antiken Quellenzeugnissen und zur neueren Literatur sein.
