[h=3]MACEDONIAN DIRECTOR WINS FIRST PRIZE FOR SAMURAI FILM[/h]


The Samurai film "Purple and Gold" directed by Macedonian filmmaker Andrijana Cvetkovic has won the first prize in short film category at FilmAsia Open Film Competition 2012 festival (IAFOR).





The screenplay of the film won at the international short-film competition organised by film studios in Japan and was shot in the famous Shochiku Kyoto Studio in 2010 as Samurai film (Jidaigeki – special film genre in Japan).


The film is shot in Japanese language with international production team and famous Japanese actors. Film’s post production was completed in 2011 and was premiered at the Kyoto Historica International Film Festival. The story is inspired from Macedonia with motives close to the world of the Macedonian legends and myths, director Cvetkovic said.


Cvetkovic holds a PhD degree in Film Arts and lives in Japan for seven years. She will be visiting professor and scientific associate at the prestigious Kyoto University in the Centre for Asian Studies.

Five Macedonian films at Turkey festival

Skopje, 5 February 2013 (MIA) - Five Macedonian films will be screened at this year's Teen International Shorts Festival (TISFEST), held February 5-9 in Istanbul.

The festival programme includes about 200 short, documentary and feature films.


Film "Bit Player" directed by Igor Aleksov will be shown in selection "Daydreams", "The Son" of Marko Djokovic in "Generation Z", "Sara the Myth" by Sinisa Stanisic in "Shoot Films, Not People", documentary "Macedonians in Istanbul" of Elizabeta Koneska in "Journey", whereas short "Face" by Stefan Simovski in selection "Staterror".


Besides projections, the festival hosts master classes by eminent professionals, where young filmmakers have the opportunity to debate, share opinions and experiences.

Macedonian FX3X, a Skopje-based CGI studio founded in 1997 by Kristijan Danilovski and Milivoje Gjorgevic, were part of the special effects teams of three films, nominated for this year respective Oscar.

FX3X worked with the Industrial Lights & Magic team on the 'Marvels The Avengers', as well as with MPC Technicolor from London on 'Prometheus' and 'Life of Pi'. It also joined London Mill Film in 'Les Miserables', being nominated for best picture along with 'Life of Pi'.

"We are proud of every project and these nominations are the highest recognition of our work and industry," Danilovski says.

For the last three years FX3X has been working with the best visual effects wizards worldwide, Gjorgevic says. The studio is already working on five films that will most probably be on the list of 2014 Academy Award nominees, he added.

16th Skopje Film Festival begins

Film "Circles" of Serbian director Srdjan Golubovic opens the 16. Skopje Film Festival in cinema "Millennium" on Friday evening.


In "Circles", five people are affected by a tragic heroic act. 12 years later, each of them will have to confront the past, through their own crisis.


The film won the Special Jury Prize at this year's Sundance Film Festival, Prize of the Ecumenical Jury at the Berlin International Film Festival, and the Audience Award at the Sofia International Film Festival.


This year's festival includes the latest film achievements of world cinematography, documentary and short films.


Skopje Film Festival will close on April 27 with "Betrayal" by Russian director Kiril Srebrenikov, including Macedonian actor Dejan Lilic in the leading role.

Macedonia to give away DTT boxes

The president of Macedonia's Broadcasting Council, Zoran Trajcevski, has confirmed that there will be no postponement of the analogue switch-off, which is due to start on 01 June. In an interview for local daily Ekonomski, he said that all of the conditions, both technical and legal, for the start of the process have been met. Trajcevski pointed out that existing subscribers to pay-TV services Max TV and Boom TV will not have to purchase new reception equipment, and they represent 85 percent of the total. The remaining 15 percent will have to purchase a new DTT receiver. He added that the Macedonian government will give away 15,000 digital boxes to the poorest citizens.
 
Russian film cycle throughout Macedonia


Skopje, 8 May 2013 (MIA) - Culture Minister Elizabeta Kanceska-Milevska will launch the Russian film cycle titled "War and Peace in Russian Film" in Skopje on Wednesday.


The films will be screened in culture centers in 14 cities throughout Macedonia, where digital projectors have been installed within the project for revival of cinemas, initiated by the Government, the Ministry of Culture and the Film Fund. ik/9:06
