Skopje. “Railway from Macedonia to Bulgaria becomes a fact,” Macedonian Minister of Transport, Mile Janakievski has said in an interview with Macedonian Dnevnik daily.
The offers in the public procurement for the construction of a railway line between Kumanovo and Beljakovce, which will give the official start of the project, will be opened in mid-September, Dnevnik comments.
The Macedonian Ministry of Transport and Communications announced several big infrastructure projects by 2020, which envisage modernisation and construction of railway lines, including those to Bulgaria and Albania.
“16 companies have filed offers in the initial stage of the competition for the section between Kumanovo and Beljakovce, nine of which have met the set conditions,” the minister said adding that the section was 30 kilometres long, while some EUR 1 million in European financing has been secured for it. EUR 46 million of the sum comes from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
The minister commented further that the procedure was expected to start by the end of the year, while all documents to be worked out by the end of 2016.
