26-03-2014 | 19:17 |
KB Sigal Prishtina is through to the Final 4 of EUROHOLD Balkan League. The team hosted BC Levski in the last and decisive game for the second direct spot there and won 77-68 after an amazing comeback win. After the first half Levski led by 17 points but after the break hosts played superb and took the victory. Levski will play in the playoffs with Kumanovo 2009 and they will determine one of the other participants in the Final 4.

It was an even start to the game but at the end of the first quarter Levski managed to take a 7-point lead with a Lionel Chalmers triple at the buzzer. Three minutes in to the second quarter the difference was the same but the visitors managed to make a great 14-3 run, capped by Mike Wilkinson′s three-pointer and suddenly they went up by 18 points. At the halftime break the difference was 17 and Levski was looking better.

The second half started in the best possible way for the home team. They made 11-0 run with which they not only came back in the game but woke the fans as well. Still Levski continued to have the lead but a 10-2 run to finish the third quarter brought Sigal back to just two points after a Tay Waller triple.

With its first offense of the last quarter the hosts tied the score and then the real battle for the win started. The home team took its first lead of the game when with 03.45 to play Waller made two free throws after a unsportsmanlike foul and then in the next offense Blerim Mazreku scored, was fouled and made the free throw to give his team a 4-point lead. Then both teams exchanged two points but after Sigal scored the next 5, suddenly the team′s lead went to 7 points with less than three minutes to play. Lionel Chalmers triple gave some hope for Levski but everything finished when with 39.6 seconds to go Aurimas Kieza drained another three-pointer for an 8-point lead for the hosts.

20 points apiece for the winners had Tay Waller and Aurimas Kieza. Blerim Mazreku finished with 14 points and some very important at the end.

For the visitors Mike Wilkinson had 17 points and 8 rebounds while Brandon Heath had 13 points and 6 assists.

Historik.

The city of Prishtina to host the Final 4 of EUROHOLD Balkan League

Finalfour.jpg

11-04-2014 | 10:00 |
The Management of EUROHOLD Balkan League chose the location for Final Four 2014 to be the city of Prishtina with hosting club KB Sigal Prishtina.

The decision was taken after carefully checking the 2 official applications that arrived until the priory scheduled deadline – 10.04.2014. - from BC Levski Sofia and KB Sigal Prishtina.

BC Gilboa Galil did not apply.

Unfortunately for the great spectators and supporters of BC Balkan, for the new arena and the city of Botevgrad, BC Balkan did not apply for hosting Final Four 2014 as well. The Management of the League had two meetings with the Mayor Mr. Georgi Georgiev as the Arena is property of the Municipality of Botevgrad and has visited the newly built Arena Botevgrad few times after its opening, checking the possibilities and under what conditions to organize there the Final Four 2014. However, during this week, we received by the Municipality of Botevgrad quite an unacceptable offer for renting the venue, with conditions and obligations that do not refer to the organization of any sports event nowadays and the League could not accept them. Meanwhile, BC Balkan qualified for the Final 4 but never sent official application and therefore the option of the city of Botevgrad was once again cancelled.

Although BC Levski has an anniversary this year – 100 years since the foundation of the club for which we congratulate them and wish them another 100 years to make their fans happy and proud, the club already hosted the event 4 years ago in Sofia. Final Four 2013 also took place in Bulgaria and we do consider that when there are other applicants fulfilling all the requirements, from different countries and teams, they have to be respected and with priority.

KB Sigal Prishtina sent the more professional and better offer, covering all the requirements of the BIBL Final Four Regulations, and thus their good job was awarded.

Final Four 2014 is a pure basketball event, the peak of a tremendous season, full of lots of great emotions and basketball moments. It is the award for the hard work of teams, referees, management, etc.

EUROHOLD Balkan League is lead by the Olympic Principle of fair play and team spirits free of political, ethnic, religious or any other type of discrimination. We firmly stand for a fair non-politically-biased sports tournament.

We wish all the participants good luck and all the fans in the gym or in front of the TVs to enjoy this basketball celebration!
