Multiplied Italian investments in Macedonia

JULY 28, 2014BY KRISTINAIN MACEDONIACOMMENTS

Macedonia became attractive destination for Italian companies.

After Tehnohoze and Dijatek, in the free economic zone Bunardgik now Montante Group company will build. These successful results are consequences of frequent presentations on the benefits of investing in Italy by almost all government ministers in charge for attracting foreign investment. Road shows, individual presentations and visits to major companies are just some of the activities aimed at increasing investment in this country, writes Lider.

Montante Group is Italian multinational company with 2,300 employees and an annual turnover of 800 million euro.
In terms of investment company was informed from the road show last year, followed by several visits by us and them, and was involved in the negotiations and promoter in Italy Ivan Iliev. After nine months, the company decided in our favor-to invests in Macedonia.
-It is no secret that before we came to Macedonia, we visited neighboring countries, but Macedonia offered the best conditions for investment and that is why we decided to open our factory. It is no question about relocating existing plant, but in Macedonia we will build entirely new capacity. Our company is located near Turin. I must say my gratitude to the Prime Minister and his economic team, which offered conditions and efforts to attract foreign investments in Macedonia, said the owner of Group Montante Antoanelo Montante.

Reviving the metal processing industry

Italian multinational company “Montante Group” this fall will begin with construction of the plant for production of shock absorbers for trains, railway vehicles, buses and heavy vehicles. The initial investment will be around 10 million euro and the facility that will employ 100 people should be ready not later than one year from the start of construction. It is envisaged after completion of construction to export products from Macedonia worth over 30 million euro.
-For several years the figure likely will come up to 300 or 400 employees. It is significant investment for introducing manufacturing technologies that are practiced in Macedonia. I am pleased that pretty often, lately we have announced that the multinational companies make decisions to invest in Macedonia, and one part of them, already have started what have announced. The new company will significantly affect the increase in exports from the country, directly and indirectly to the reduction of unemployment and the overall production in the country, Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski.

Through “Montand Group” to new Italian investments

-What is important is that Mr. Montante except he is holder of credential multinational company, he is also Vice president of the National Association of Industrialists Companies something, similar of our Chamber of Commerce and he has very big impact in that group because if that company has decided to invest in some countries this means very positive sign for other companies that are part of this group and they could look at Macedonia as possible investment destination. Also, it is significant that the owner of the group said that this investment is planned to be increase up three to four times, which means that not only employment for 400 people but an investment of 40 million euro, said Viktor Mizo, director of the TIRZ.

Italy is among the five largest trading partners of Macedonia

Investments from Italy are nearly doubled, and is planned further increase of the economic cooperation between the two countries. This recently was said by the Italian Ambassador in the interview for Vecher.
-We have investors who in short period, plan to visit Macedonia. We have four new investments. The biggest investment of 30 million euro is in the automotive sector, it is big Italian company. So far we have six Italian investments in the country, four of them should arrive by the end of the year and then two more. So, we duplicate investments, six will be twelve. This will happen in the next six to twelve months and it is proved by the strong interest. What is interesting in terms of trade between Italy and Macedonia is that, unlike the first and second partner of Macedonia, whose companies imported from outside, they would be working here and would export the products, they will not work for the indigenous market, our exchange is based on different way. The Italian economy is based on small, not large companies, and our exchange is based on the true import and export, which provides benefits for Macedonian market. The goods stay in the market, unlike other cases where statistically there is great exchange, but nothing remains of the domestic market. Yes, exactly, they create jobs, but the final product is not for your market. Our companies operate fully in the market, which is big difference in the approach. The largest companies, however, are related to those of other countries, import Italian materials and export products, because Macedonia is small market, said Ernest Masimino Belili, Italian Ambassador to Macedonia.

[h=3]Macedonia: Budget Deficit Mounts to EUR 315 Million[/h]Labels: Finanzen

This year the Macedonian Government falls to budget deficit of astonishing EUR 315 million, although according to the initial plan, the deficit was set at EUR 297 million, Utrinski daily reads.

This increased deficit, which the government has adopted at a session last week, has been projected in the this year's budget balance. However, it was not presented at the official media conference, but was announced and explained through various statements made by the Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski and the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Zoran Stavreski.

With the new balance, which the Government calls a "mini" correction, the budget deficit will grow by 3.9% of the gross domestic product (GDP), compared to the previously planned 3.5%, while the budget incomes and expenditures have been cut by some 2%. Given the fact that the GDP this year has been estimated at EUR 8.088 billion, according to the evaluations, the deficit will mount to EUR 315 million, i.e. EUR 18 million.

The Government claims the budget’s rebalance is done because of the fact that the construction of the highway leading to Gevgelija has accelerated, thus required more money. But, the opposition believes that this correction is the result of bad fiscal policy management.

Meanwhile, the data on the filling and emptying of the national treasury has shown that only in the first half of this year, 80% of the budget deficit was spent, i.e. the Government had spent EUR 240 million in the first six months, although only EUR 297 million were allowed.

On Saturday, Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski announced that the budget rebalance will be adopted due to the increase in salaries and pensions.

"The increase in salaries, pensions and the social assistance was a measure projected in the Budget, and the small increase in the budget deficit is related to the increase of means allocated for the construction of the highway leading to Gevgelija. The construction project is being implemented well, and according to the estimated dynamics, it has even accelerated, and in order not to have any disturbance, we needed additional resources," Gruevski said.

Previously, Finance Minister Stavreski said that the reason for the rebalance in budget, was the harmonization of the dynamics of expenditures, which was better than predicted, especially in the infrastructure sector, with the dynamics of the incomes.

According to Stavreski, there will be additional funds for social incomes. The cuts are equal in the goods and services sector, as well as in the transfers and capital expenditures sector.

"With this 'mini' rebalance, we will manage to remain in the zone of fiscal stability and secure undisturbed realization of the projects," Macedonia’s main treasurer said.

Vanco Uzunov, SDSM Vice President and economy professor, says the budget rebalance is a consequence of the bad fiscal policy management.

"The government, although it knew that there will be elections and planned all its expenses, spent much more than that. Secondly, I think this re-balance is a temporary thing, because the Government must have some acute need at this moment, while I expect a new, significantly larger rebalance in fall, and then, by publishing the Final Balance of the budget, it will justify the expenses" Uzunov said.

According to Uzunov, the link between the highway and the rebalance is dubious, and even its hasten construction. "Why the government, with its constitutional amendments, prescribes the budget deficit to be set at 3% of the GDP, and for several years now, it has been surpassing that limit, like for instance this year, when it will amount to around 4%," Uzunov added.
