Macedonia: Song about Vladimir Putin becomes hit in elections battle
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CEfPo9R4K7g
A song composed by Aleksandar Djaparovski dedicated to Russian President Vladimir Putin became a viral hit in the elections campaign in Macedonia.
The new modern tune is aired by Ajvar Radio and already enjoys great interest and popularity in the social networks.
The song uses the original melody of a popular revolutionary song from the years after the Ilinden–Preobrazhenie Uprising (1903) called “Zaplakalo e Mariyovo”. The song was dedicated to a teacher in Bulgarian language and literature at the Bitola high school – Georgi Kostov Sugarev, who died together with all his students in a battle with the Turkish army close to the Paralovo Monastery on March 23, 1906.
Instead of the original lyrics, which say:
“Zaplakalo e Mariyovo, zaplakalo
za toy mi Georgi Sugarev…” [English: Mariyovo burst out crying, burst out crying for Georgi Sugarev…],
the new text represents a dialogue between the national signer and the Russian President.
The new lyrics say, as follows:
“Macedonia burst out crying, burst out crying
for Putin, Putin, Vladimir.
Where are you Putin, Putin, Vladimir,
to come here and rescue me from the EU and NATO?
Where are you Putin, Putin, Vladimir,
To come now and rescue me from America?”
“I hear you nation, enslaved nation Macedonian,
heirs of Alexander the Great.
I will finish things in Syria and Turkey,
and I will head at Macedonia.
We are a nation, an Orthodox nation, the best of all.
I will rescue you from the American evil,
Clement and Naum gave us the word and letters,
You gave us a Church and writing.
Clement and Naum gave us the word and letters,
And we never forget this…”
