Muslims celebrate Kurban Bayrami
Skopje, 25 October 2012 (MIA) - Muslims celebrate Thursday Islamic holiday Kurban Bayrami or Feast of Sacrifice.
The Kurban Bayrami, known in Arabic as Eid al-Adha, one of the most important holidays on the Muslim calendar, celebrates the gesture of the Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham), who was on the verge of sacrificing his son Ismail for the love of God, who spared the child and gave a sheep to be sacrificed instead.
It is observed after the hajj and is seen as a day of remembrance for Muslims who use the occasion to pray and glorify the name of God and demonstrate the remembrance of His grace. Muslims who can afford to do so offer animals, usually sheep, as a symbol of Ibrahim's sacrifice. Some of the meat is given to the poor. The rest is shared among family, relatives and friends.
The Head of the Islamic Religious Community in Macedonia, Reis ul Ulema Hadzi Sulejman Efendi Rexhepi, sent a note of congratulations on the holiday to Muslim believers.
"This holiday urges all followers to be reasonable, it reflects their sincere return to the principles of the Islamic faith, cultivating humane and human values to all, especially the close ones, neighbors and all those in need. Kurban Bayrami symbolically represents the sacrifice, i.e. the Kurban, an act with sublime significance and comprehensive positive effects. It represents the sacrifice for sublime goals, commitment to ideals and achievement of continual satisfaction by the creator of the universe", says Hadzi Sulejman Efendi Rexhepi in the note.
The first day of Kurban Bayrami is non-working for Muslim followers in the Republic of Macedonia.
An dieser Stelle auch von mir einen euch herzlichen und schönen Feiertag!
