New 530 jobs in mining in 2013

DECEMBER 26, 2013BY ALEKSANDRAIN MACEDONIACOMMENTS

The Mining in Macedonia was successful in 2013, and we plan to organize many projects for the next year, including a new Law on mineral resources and to find reputable foreign companies, which will make a full scan of mineral wealth in order to find new sites. This was stated by Minister of Economy before the meeting of the Macedonian Mining Association (MAR).

Saraqini specified that 93 concessions for geological research and exploration are awarded in 2013, with revenues of MKD 600 million only from the first nine months of this year.
- New 530 jobs are opened at the mining sector in 2013 which is an increased growth of almost 7 percent compared to the previous year. We can conclude that 2013 was a very successful year. We are planning a new law on mineral resources for 2014 and also to find a reputable foreign companies that will do a thorough research of mineral wealth in order to find new sites, which will be the subject of concession – Saraqini said.
The Mining Association requested the Government and the Ministry of Economy to delay the implementation of new tariff concessions, which provides increased mining concession fee by 50 percent from next year.
- It would be very bad because all companies have already adopted their budgets, and the concession fee has a significant role in the overall financial performance. We will ask the Government and the Ministry of Economy to postpone the application of tariff concessions and give us the opportunity to jointly discuss what effect it will have on the operation – said Nikolajco Nikolov, President of MAR.
The Vice President of MAR, Shefki Aliti has assessed the new tariff as a shock to businesses, especially those that have quarries and marble combines.
The Minister Saraqini answered that the introduction of the new tariff has already been delayed in order to meet the concessionaires’ demands.
